When to use it

Selects the entire row of the active cell.

Worked examples

  • Select a row

    Click a cell in row 7, press Shift + Space Row 7 is selected

    Then delete, hide, or format it.

  • Delete a row

    Shift + Space, then Ctrl + - The row is deleted

    Delete without the mouse.

  • Hide rows

    Shift + Space, Shift + ↓ three times, Ctrl + 9 Four rows hidden

    Hide a block of rows.

Worth knowing

  • Ctrl + Space selects the column.
  • In a Table, the first press selects the Table row only.
  • Shift + Space then Ctrl + Shift + + inserts a row.

Where it goes wrong

  • In edit mode it types a space.
  • Selecting whole rows and then pasting can overwrite far more than intended.
