Worked examples
A few cells
Click A1, press Shift + → twice → A1:C1 selected
Precise selection.
A short column
Shift + ↓ five times → Six rows selected
Where Ctrl + Shift + ↓ would overshoot.
Adjust a selection
Ctrl + Shift + ↓, then Shift + ↑ → The selection shrinks by one row
Trim a total row off the bottom.
Worth knowing
- Combine with Ctrl for edge-to-edge selection.
- Shift + Space then Shift + ↓ selects whole rows.
- Shift + click selects from the active cell to the clicked cell.
Where it goes wrong
- Slow for large ranges.
- In edit mode it selects text characters instead.
