Values in rows versus columns
Controls whether multiple value fields sit side by side or stacked.
When to use it
With several value fields, the Σ Values item decides whether they sit side by side (in Columns) or stacked under each row item (in Rows).
The shape of it
- How
Drag the "Σ Values" item between the Rows and Columns areas.
Worked examples
Stack values
Drag Σ Values from Columns to Rows → Each value field on its own row under each item
Stacked layout.
Side by side
Drag Σ Values back to Columns → Side by side
Default.
Reorder
Σ Values above a Column field → Values grouped first, then the column items within
Order matters.
Worth knowing
- Σ Values appears only when there are two or more value fields.
- Its position in the area sets the nesting order.
- Stacked layouts print narrower.
Where it goes wrong
- Easy to lose Σ Values when removing fields.
- Stacked values make column totals confusing.
