When to use it

Slicers are clickable buttons that filter one or more pivots and show at a glance what is filtered. They are the standard control for dashboards.

Worth knowing

  • Pivots must share a cache (same source) to share a slicer.
  • Slicer styles and column counts are on the Slicer tab.
  • Slicers work on Tables too.

Where it goes wrong

  • Slicers on large fields with thousands of items are slow and unusable.
  • A slicer connected to a pivot that was deleted keeps a dead connection.
