Grouping numbers into bins
Turns a numeric field into ranges like 0-99, 100-199.

When to use it
A numeric row field can be grouped into bins of equal width, turning order values into ranges like 0-99 and 100-199.
The shape of it
- How
Right-click a number in the row area, Group, set start, end, and the bin size.
Worked examples
Equal bins
Right-click a number in Rows, Group, Starting at 0, Ending at 1000, By 100 → Ten bins of 100
A histogram.
Wider bins
Group, By 250 → Coarser bins
Adjust the width.
Ungroup
Ungroup → Back to individual numbers
Reset.
Worth knowing
- Set the start and end to round numbers or the labels look odd.
- Combine with Count in Values for a distribution.
- Uneven bins need a helper column in the source.
Where it goes wrong
- Text values in the column block grouping.
- The last bin can be a stub if the end is not a multiple of the width.
