When to use it
Saves the workbook. With AutoSave on for OneDrive files it is mostly redundant, but the habit is still worth keeping.

Every few minutes.
First save
Ctrl + S on a new workbook → Save As opens to name it

Save a copy
F12 → Save As for a new copy
Version copies.
Worth knowing
- Saving in manual calculation mode leaves it manual for the next person.
- AutoSave on OneDrive keeps version history under File, Info.
- Save before running any macro; macros cannot be undone.
Where it goes wrong
- Saving as .xlsx strips macros.
- Ctrl + S on a shared file can trigger conflict prompts.
