• Move a range

  Select A1:A10, Ctrl + X, click C1, Ctrl + V → The cells move to C1:C10

  Formulas referencing A1:A10 now reference C1:C10.

• References follow

  Cut a cell referenced elsewhere, paste it → Every formula follows it

  Unlike copy, which leaves the original.

• Cancel a cut

  Ctrl + X, then Esc → The cut is cancelled

  Nothing moves until you paste.

• Cut and paste is the safe way to reorganize a model; formulas follow the moved cells.
• Cut only allows one paste.
• Dragging a selection border does the same thing.

• Cutting over a range that formulas point to breaks them with #REF! if the target is inside the cut area.
• Paste Special is not available after a cut.
