Worked examples

  • Hide rows

    Select rows 5 to 10, Ctrl + 9 → The rows disappear

    Tuck away detail.

  • Hide one row

    Click a cell, Ctrl + 9 → Just that row hides

    No need to select the whole row.

  • Unhide

    Select rows 4 to 11, Ctrl + Shift + 9 → Hidden rows in between reappear

    The reverse.

Worth knowing

  • Grouping (Alt + Shift + →) is better than hiding for anything you will toggle often.
  • Hidden rows are still copied unless you use Alt + ;.
  • A thick border between row numbers marks hidden rows.

Where it goes wrong

  • Hidden rows are easy to forget and can hide data from a sum check.
  • Filters and hidden rows interact confusingly.
