Worked examples

Select the grouped rows, Alt + Shift + ← The bracket disappears, rows stay visible

    Ungroup.

  • Ungroup columns

Select grouped columns, Alt + Shift + ← Ungrouped

    Same for columns.

  • Clear all groups

Data, Ungroup, Clear Outline Every group removed at once

    Start over.

Worth knowing

  • Expand the group before ungrouping or the rows stay hidden.
  • Ungrouping the outer level of nested groups leaves the inner ones.
  • Clear Outline is faster for many groups.

Where it goes wrong

  • Rows hidden by a collapsed group remain hidden after ungrouping; unhide them.
  • Selection must cover the whole group.
