1What it does
Grouping rows gives a sheet a fold: click the minus and forty expense lines collapse into their subtotal, click the plus and they come back. It's the honest alternative to hiding rows, which nobody ever remembers to unhide and which quietly removes things from view without leaving a mark. The little 1/2/3 buttons at the top left jump the whole sheet between levels, which is how you flip a schedule from summary to full detail in front of someone.
2The shortcut
- 1Select the detail rows — not the subtotal row they roll into.
- 2Press
Alt + Shift + →to group them. - 3Use the minus in the margin to collapse, or the 1/2/3 buttons to move the whole sheet between levels.
Alt + Shift + ←ungroups.

Select the three detail rows — not the total they roll into — and group them. The 1/2/3 buttons then move the whole sheet between levels.
