Deal with the green triangles
AltM, KEditing & references"Number stored as text" is why a column sums to zero, and that triangle is the only warning.

The little green corner is Excel telling you something it thinks is wrong. Most of them are noise — a formula that skips a cell, an inconsistent pattern — but one matters enormously: **Number stored as text**. A column of those adds up to nothing, and the total sits there at zero looking like a real answer. Selecting the range and using the warning menu converts the lot in one action. The other flags are worth learning so you can ignore them with confidence rather than out of habit.

- 1Select the whole affected range, starting from the first flagged cell.
- 2Click the warning icon that appears and choose **Convert to Number**.

The total reads zero and looks like an answer. That's what makes “number stored as text” the one green triangle worth caring about — the rest are mostly noise.
