Centre a title without merging cells

1What it does
Merged cells break things quietly. You can't sort a range that contains one, you can't copy a single column through one, filters behave strangely, and most macros fall over on them — and the failures arrive weeks later, in someone else's hands. Center Across Selection produces exactly the same appearance with none of that: the text still lives in one cell, it's just drawn across the others. There is no good reason to merge cells in a working spreadsheet, and this is the replacement.

- 1Select the cells the title should span — don't merge them.

Center Across Selection.

Merged: sorting this range is refused, copying column B alone is refused, and most macros stop on it. The failure arrives weeks later, in someone else's hands.
4When you use it
- Span a report title across the columns of a schedule.
- Head a group of month columns without blocking a later sort.
- Fix an inherited workbook: unmerge everything, then apply this instead.
