When to use it

Recalculates only the active worksheet, useful in manual calculation mode on large models.

Worked examples

  • Recalculate one sheet

    In manual mode, edit inputs, press Shift + F9 This sheet updates, others wait

    Faster iteration.

  • Full recalculation

    F9 afterwards Everything updates

    Before reporting.

  • Force recalculation

    Ctrl + Alt + F9 Full recalculation including unchanged formulas

    When something looks stale.

Worth knowing

  • Manual mode is under Formulas, Calculation Options; the status bar shows Calculate when pending.
  • Sheets depending on this one stay stale until F9.
  • Save in manual mode and the file opens in manual mode for others.

Where it goes wrong

  • Dependent sheets show old numbers.
  • Easy to forget you are in manual mode.
