When to use it

Pastes values only, skipping the Paste Special dialog. Available in Microsoft 365.

Worked examples

  • Freeze formulas

    Copy formulas, Ctrl + Shift + V The results are pasted as numbers

    Freeze a calculation.

  • Drop formatting

    Copy from a formatted report, Ctrl + Shift + V Plain values without colors or borders

    Clean paste.

  • Out of a Table

    Copy a Table column, Ctrl + Shift + V into a plain sheet Values without the Table style

    Export from a Table.

Worth knowing

  • Older versions need Ctrl + Alt + V then V.
  • Add Paste Values to the Quick Access Toolbar for a mouse version.
  • Works with the moving border still active.

Where it goes wrong

  • In some versions Ctrl + Shift + V pastes text without formatting, not values; check the result.
  • Not in Excel 2019 or earlier.
