When to use it
Opens the dropdown for the cell: the filter menu on a header, a validation list, or a list of values already in the column.

Filter menu
On a filtered header, Alt + ↓ → The filter menu opens; arrows and Space choose items

In a cell with a validation list, Alt + ↓ → The list drops down

Pick from column
In a plain cell under text entries, Alt + ↓ → A list of values already typed above
Consistent entries.
Worth knowing
- In a plain cell it also lists values already typed in that column.
- In the filter menu, E jumps to the search box.
- The pick-from-column list only shows text, not numbers.
- Esc closes the list.
Where it goes wrong
- Does nothing on numeric columns without validation.
- On Mac use Option + ↓.
