How is the rating scored?
Like chess. You start at 1000 and every question has a rating of its own. Getting a question right moves you up by more if the question was rated above you; missing an easy one costs more than missing a hard one. The step size shrinks as your history grows, so one lucky answer never throws an established rating around.
How are formula questions graded?
By evaluating what you type. Your formula runs against the sheet you can see and against a hidden copy with different numbers, and both results are compared to the reference. Any formula that returns the right thing passes — VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, and XLOOKUP all get full credit — and a typed-in number fails the hidden copy.
Where do the questions come from?
A bank of 3,091: 981 formula tasks over small sheets and 2110 concept questions across 520 functions, shortcuts, pivot tables, VBA, and the concepts around them. The next question is drawn from just above your rating, alternating formula and concept, and avoids anything you've seen recently.
Does it need an account?
No. Your rating and history live in this browser only. Question difficulty is updated anonymously from everyone's answers, so a question people keep missing gets rated harder over time.
