Worked examples

  • Enter upward

    Type a value, press Shift + Enter Saved, cursor moves up

    Entering from the bottom of a column.

  • Correct and return

    Fix a typo below, Shift + Enter Back to the cell above

    Without reaching for the arrows.

  • Find backwards

    In Find, Shift + Enter Previous match

    Reverse search direction.

Worth knowing

  • Handy in Find and Replace to step backwards through matches.
  • Same as Enter with the move direction set to Up.
  • Shift + Tab is the horizontal equivalent.

Where it goes wrong

  • Easy to confuse with Alt + Enter (line break).
  • Rarely faster than an arrow key.
