When to use it
The cumulative lognormal distribution. Replaced by LOGNORM.DIST, which adds a cumulative flag.
The shape of it
- Syntax
=LOGNORMDIST(x, mean, standard_dev)
Worked examples
Cumulative
=LOGNORMDIST(4,3.5,1.2) → 0.0390836
Probability of a value at or below 4.
Median
=LOGNORMDIST(1,0,1) → 0.5
With mean 0 the median is 1.
Upper tail
=LOGNORMDIST(EXP(1.96),0,1) → 0.975
The 97.5th percentile.
Worth knowing
- LOGNORM.DIST(...,TRUE) is identical.
- No density option here.
- Mean and sd are of LN(x).
Where it goes wrong
- #NUM! for x of 0 or less.
