When to use it
The simple interest rate earned on a fully invested security bought at one amount and redeemed at another.
The shape of it
- Syntax
=INTRATE(settlement, maturity, investment, redemption, [basis])
Worked examples
Three months
=INTRATE(DATE(2008,2,15),DATE(2008,5,15),1000000,1014420,2) → 5.77%
A three-month investment.
Half year
=INTRATE(DATE(2025,1,1),DATE(2025,7,1),97.5,100) → 5.13%
Half a year, 30/360.
One year
=INTRATE(DATE(2025,1,1),DATE(2026,1,1),95,100) → 5.26%
A full year.
Worth knowing
- Rate is on the investment; DISC is on the redemption value.
- RECEIVED reverses it.
- Basis affects short periods.
Where it goes wrong
- #NUM! for non-positive amounts.
- Text dates return #VALUE!.
